Local-First Studio

Build tools that run on your own device.

We make small, fast desktop and mobile apps that work without a cloud account. Your data stays on your drive. Your work continues even when the network is down. Your privacy is the default, not an upgrade.

Who we are

We are a small studio that has been writing software for the same set of customers for many years. We focus on tools you can hand to a real person and watch them succeed inside of an hour. We do not build platforms that pretend to be everything to everyone. We build tools that finish one job well and then stay out of the way.

Our team has shipped desktop software for healthcare, hospitality, small-business retail, and event production. Our smallest customer has three employees. Our largest serves the United States Space Force community in Brevard County, Florida. Every customer gets the same craft.

What we build

We build five kinds of things and we are very good at all five:

  1. Offline-first installers. A program that runs the first time you double-click it, with no account creation, no email verification, no captcha.
  2. Local data stores. A file you can open, read, copy, back up, and email. Not a cloud account you can lose.
  3. Print-ready outputs. Reports that print to a normal printer on normal paper, not a special browser plugin.
  4. Plain-text exports. Every record you create can be exported to a small text file you can open in Notepad twenty years from now.
  5. Service contracts you can read. A page of terms in plain English, not seventy-two pages of warranty-fine-print.

How we price

We charge one of three ways. You pick.

ModelWhat you payWhat you get
Per-licenseOne payment per deviceThe program, updates for a year, plain-email support
Per-projectA fixed quote for a custom buildThe custom program and the source code and a half-day handoff
Per-hourAn hourly rate for ongoing workWhatever you need; we tell you the hours each Friday

Why local-first

Most software made today asks you to put your data on someone else's computer. That is fine for a chat program, but it is wrong for a private business record. When your data lives on someone else's machine, you can be locked out for a billing dispute. You can be discontinued for a policy change. You can have your records read by a future owner. The local-first model treats your computer as the source of truth and treats the network as an optional helper.

How we got started

The studio started as a one-person web shop in 2001 and grew into a six-person team that builds installers and small business tools for clients across the Space Coast of Florida. We have signed contracts that we honored even when the customer could not pay on time, because we knew the work would matter to them ten years out.

Frequently asked questions

Do you sign NDAs?

Yes, before the first technical conversation, on our standard template or yours.

Do you keep my source code?

For per-project work, you get the source code at handoff. We keep a copy for support but do not reuse it elsewhere.

What happens if I stop paying?

Per-license customers keep using the version they paid for. Updates stop. There is no remote kill switch.

Do you work outside Florida?

Yes, over the network. For on-site work we travel.

Are you hiring?

Occasionally for contract work. Email is the best way to ask.

Contact

Email is the fastest way to reach us. We answer in business hours, Monday through Friday, Eastern Time. For urgent issues with an active project, we publish a phone number after the contract is signed.
